The first Reflective Journal School Experience (PETA)


The great Experience in Teaching Assistance Program

To be teacher assistance is so challenging, I should help the teacher to teach in the real class. During two weeks, I have to do school experience in the high school which was chosen by my college. I got in SMAN 43 Jakarta. Over there, my master teacher was so kind and helpful. Actually my college asked us to do micro teaching in a team work with the minimum teaching experience fourth times in two weeks. But our master teacher asked us to teach her student fourth times in a week and she still challenged us to teach once more. So I had five times teaching experience in the first week. It made me so tired.
I have realized that teaching is a kind of jobs which need a patience and passion to do that. Without having double “P” (Patience and Passion) we can not be a good teacher because a good teacher should have a patience to manage the students when they are naughty and a passion to be a teacher with the high intention before teaching the students. As like what I felt when I taught the students of SMAN 43, there were so many things that made me stress. For example: I had to make a lesson plan before teaching and I had to think what activity that was suitable with the topic. Usually what we have planned before was not going well. But overall the students were happy when we were teaching because we did the different ways to teach them.
I had to give thanks to Sampoerna School of Education which has given me chance and knowledge to be a high quality of teacher.

The fourth Reflective Journal (PETA)


Model of Instructions

Before doing school experience, we did micro teaching in the last Thursday. It was about model of instructions that we have learnt before. Actually my group has presented our micro teaching in the two last Thursday. So, we enjoyed to pay attention to the groups which have been presenting their micro teaching without feeling worry and nervous.
The rest of the groups which have not been presenting the micro teaching should guess what model of instructions that the group was presenting. Did the group use direct instruction, lecture discussion, guided discovery or group interaction? Maybe the group used all the model of instructions in one time. It could be used together in the time when we were teaching.
All the groups which have presented in last Thursday were very good. They performed in the team teaching. It might be our group (I mean the first group) gave them reflection about the rule of micro teaching itself which was expected by Miss Ine. Although our group was messy in the presentation but we were proud of our group, because we could be the next group reflection. They would not missed understanding about the instruction again.
Sometimes, the group which have been presenting asked to us to come forward to pretend as their students. We were really happy because we were in the fun learning. But, it also could be their weakness because if the students are naughty, they will be little bit hard to manage their students. It happened in micro teaching last Thursday, in Andik’s group exactly. They were using game but the students did not cooperative well with the teacher and rule of the game.
Our micro teaching last Thursday gave us so many advantages because next week we have to do school experience. It can be our guidance when we are to be teacher assistance. I hope our mistakes that we have done in the micro teaching will not happen in the real class. Amien.

The third Reflective Journal (TLL)


The second Tutor for the Students
This is the third Reflective Journal in Technology and Language Learning. It is about technology for helping student in speaking and how to pronoun some words. It is really needed for making easy in the twenty first century students and teachers. Sometimes, we do not realize about that, but we usually and often use it in every daily activities. For example, when we listened to the music especially English song, we have learnt how to pronoun it well. We did it by imitating the voice.
In the classroom, the teacher teaches the students with showing them some videos which include some important lesson for the student. They should listen and give attention to the video, the teacher also asks to the student to retell what the video tells about. This activity means that the student should speak up in the classroom. The technology helps the student to acquire the second language; we can call it as the second tutor.
Based on Swain’s statement about the comprehensible output, the technology have been very helpful for us. We can know our mistakes when we are speaking by recording it and we can correct our speaking after playing it. The technology has shown the advantages that it can do human’s duty. Before the existing technology, the human’s duty can not be changed by anything, but when the technology exists in our life, everything was easy to do.
The students also can learn about their lesson by them selves, they do not need to come to the class because the technology is so easy to access. The teacher can send her/his lesson by email although it contents of video or others. So we are not wrong if we say the technology as the second tutor. It assists the main tutor (real teacher) to teach the students to speak up and pronounce the words well.

The third Reflective Journal

The third meeting of Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment last Thursday was so challenging. We were given a new material by the lecturer. It was about teacher instruction, group interaction, guided discovery, and lecturer discussion. We were in a group and had discussion about the lesson which was given by the lecturer. After having discussion, we made a gallery walk.
I was very glad in that group because we have made a group by ourselves. We felt so comfort over there and studied together in the gallery walk. But that was no longer, I was so surprised when one of my group member took the lottery. And the result was very amazing. We were so confused and did not know what we were going to do. We thought we were going to do presentation about the lesson plan, but the reality was doing micro teaching about our lesson plan.
We were so lucky because Miss Ine gave us a little time to prepare our performance. Actually we were so difficult to think what we were going to present in the pressured situation. Moreover all the other groups gave the support while insulting. Finally we were ready to present our performance after the time was up. We consisted of five people in a group. One of us to be a teacher and the rest of the group pretended to be the students.
After finishing the role play, we have realized that we were wrong. We should be in the team work, but we missed understanding. So we felt a little disappointed. I hope it could be a reflection for the next group which have not presented yet.

Humanistic studies 1

The meaning of my beautiful name
(Tri Okta Ervina) 
There are so many people live and do activities in this world. It is so difficult if you want to call somebody just use the word”hey”. Maybe all of people will turn round to you or nobody accept your calling. To make it easy, of course, we need a name to differentiate someone with somebody else. Although usually we find the same name but it is not a big problem because all the people do not use the same name. Some of parents give their children a beautiful name; they hope their children will be as beautiful as their name, not only beautiful but also rich of meaning.
My parents also do not forget to give me a beautiful name with some meaning inside of it. My complete name is TRI OKTA ERVINA. I am the last child from my parents. I feel so happy and lucky because all of my family love and care with me. Because of they are so worry about me; they often treat me as a little girl. When I wanted to go to somewhere, I had to be accompanied by someone. It made me stress. Recently, I knew it. This one is part of humanistic studies. Hehehhehehehehhee…..
And now, I will explain my beautiful name which is given by my father. TRI is my first name; it was taken from Javanese number which the meaning is number three. Yeach, I am the third child from my father. In the middle of my name is OKTA, it came from October, the month which I was born. And the last is ERVINA; this part is the interesting one that I really like. It was my father’s identity to give all his children’s name, he always use ER for making “cool” in his children’s name. As like my older sister, in the end of her name is ERNANTIKA.
My name is so beautiful and useful for me. I do love it. I proud of my own name, so that’s way I do not want to change my name although I could change it. But, if possible to add something in my name, I want to add JUWITA in my first name. I ever told to my father while joking, I said “Why don’t you give me JUWITA in my first name? It can represent your name and my mom. And it looks like suitable with my sister’s first name.” I protest.
My father answered with laughing. Actually it has been thought by him before I born. He did not want to give that name to me because it was so easy to guess that it was taken by my father and my mother’s name. So, he did not want to put it in my first name. Beside that, I also have a kid name, when I was child my neighbor called me “PIPIN”. Maybe because of father called me ERVIN so all of my neighbors followed call me PIPIN, it came from “ERVIN” but they are difficult to say it clearly, so they just call me PIPIN.

The second Interesting Meeting

The second meeting of Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment was so interesting. As like what I guessed before, we were studying about lesson plan. Before studying about lesson plan, we watched a movie. It was about a method which has been applying in an elementary school. We could learn and evaluate the method for teaching and learning. Does the method good or not when we apply it in the classroom.
After watched the video, I knew how to teach with a good way and avoid the bad thing that I could do in the classroom. In that video, the students are invited by the teacher to be active and the teacher sometimes just to be a facilitator. Questions and answers are the way to assess the student. The teacher also invited the students to go to somewhere that exposure the natural sample. This teaching used thematic learning, we can call it integrated learning.
In my view, this method is effective, but there were something missing. When the teacher told story to the students, some of them were sleepy. It was ineffective way because the teacher did not invite the students into her story. The teacher also just paid her intention for some of the students; she ignored some of students who wanted to active, for example based on the video, there was a student showed the teacher a black rambutan but the teacher did not pay attention to him.
We did a presentation after having discussion with my group. I prefer make a group or works with the group which contains of people that I really comfortable with and care of me. When I worked with the group with somebody who did not respect to me, I felt uncomfortable with that group. Of course, I felt that I did not want to be there. It happened because I could not communicate with others easily. My wish, the lecturers give a chance to the students to make a comfortable learning process in the classroom by themselves.
