Digital Media

We live in the 21^st century now. Of course the use of technology is very important and needed, moreover in teaching and learning process. We can look at our ways to study language learning in the classroom. Most of the way use digital media. It is used by us because it can be an easy and very helpful. The digital media itself has many characteristics whether it is good or bad.

Computer is one of digital media. I am sure that we often use it to do our assignment and most of the kind of activities that associated with technology. For example, when we want to do assignment we use the computer to help us type that duty. If we use handwriting to do all the kind of assignment we will take a long time. We can not revise it easily, maybe we write down from the start again and again.

Nowadays, our lecturers always use power point to explain the material. It is the digital media that is interesting to be viewed by the student and easy for the lecturer. The student will not be boring because in that power point the lecturer can add some picture or other natural example so that easy to be understood by the student. Not only the teachers or lecturers who use it, but the students also use power point to help the material for their presentation.

The use of internet can not be separated from language learning, because it can help teacher or student to prove their opinion about everything. They can search something quickly to find the material than look for in the book. But not all of the resources are valid, for example we take it from a blog. It is not really valid because all of people can make a blog. So that’s way, our lecturer always says that we have to be careful in looking for something to prove scientific course. And also be careful in taking something because there is copyright issue.

We have changed our habit from the traditional way to the electronic communication. In twenty years ago maybe half of people use letter from handwriting to communicate with others in the long distance or use a love letter when somebody want to express their feeling to their sweetheart. But it has gone; only a formal situation use manual way. We often use electronic communication rather than the old ways.

Handwriting assessment takes a long time to get feedback. We could feel it when we had paper and pencil test exam. We can compare it with online exercise which directly gets feedback and the explanation of it. So the students prefer to use online exercise than manual way. It means that digital media is so important in learning and teaching process.

The first awesome meeting

I am in the third semester now. In last Thursday I had class with Miss Ine, the lecturer that I have never seen before. She said that it was her first teaching experience. I was so comfortable joining that lecture because she is different with other lecturers. She could treat us what we want. She explained the material clearly. Our opinion was valued by her. That was a wonderful job. I want that ways or methods always used in our classroom.

No dominant students and no more silent students are my expectation in this course. Because how pity the students who have low ability to speak if the dominant students are allowed in the class. Usually some lecturers pay all of her/his attention to the student who has well in speaking rather than the silent student. Whereas the silent student is not as stupid as we thought. They just need the guidance and attention from others. Give the chance for that student is one of the ways to help the silent student. I hope my beloved lecturer consider it in learning and teaching process, not only for Miss Ine but also for all of the lecturers.

At the first meeting of Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment that I got it last Thursday, it is about our previous teacher when we were in senior high school, teacher that inspiring us to be a teacher and the teachers who are interesting and not interesting. Why they have inspired us and others. Most of my friends really like his/her teacher, it is because of they are smart, caring and understanding.

The interesting moment happened when Miss Ine asked to us to answer a question which is the fundamental for us, why we want to be a teacher. Actually some of us do not want to be a teacher; I don’t know why they do not really want to be a teacher although they are studying in education major. Honestly, I also do not really want to be a teacher, I think to be a teacher is not only in the classroom or formal education but also to be a teacher is do a great thing in social life. Giving and sharing our knowledge each other in the society is one of example to be a teacher.

That’s all my experience in Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment. I hope the next meeting will be more interesting than the last meeting. Learn more about lesson plan must be interesting.

Humanistic studies 1

The great expectation and understanding & knowing others

I am sure that everyone has expectation in their life and so do I. There are so many expectations that I have, for example expectation in the class, in every lectures or even in my friendship. Because with all of my expectations I can survive to continue my life with so many problems which make me confused.

In this chance, I would like to share my expectation in Humanistic Studies 1 course. It is one of my lectures in the third semester. It is all about everything that associated with human. I also do not know about it well, still confused. Maybe it was the first time I joined that lecture. I hope the next meeting I will understand well about it. My expectation in Humanistic Studies 1, I can feel comfort in the class which is so many differences. Although I have been studying here for one year, but the differences still come out in the class. I do not know why, it is because of we are compete each other or just our egoism.

The second expectation is I want to get more knowledge and hopefully I can use it in the society. I think it will be useless if I just know the knowledge without practicing in daily activities. Honestly, I seldom to use my knowledge in my daily life. So that’s way I write this in my expectation list. It looks so stupid but I admit it deeply from my heart. Maybe some of us also do the same thing like me. And the important thing is get the good value in this course. I am as a scholarship has to have the high value in all the courses. That’s all of my expectation in this course.

Humanistic Studies 1 learns about human and others. It means that we study about human life also. Human or people need each other because we live in the society. Of course, we live with so many people and it makes complicated problem. Everyone has problem, it is because of we have emotion and egoism. Human has ability to think so that’s way they are called by perfect creature. Humans are created with differences although she or he is born in the same mother, it must be any differences of them. Because of that differences, human can create the great thing. We can learn and knowing each other. Differences of culture, religion, skin color, and all the kinds of everything often make the gap each other. For example, I am not in the same religion with one of my friend, if I think of it with my egoism and I always think that we are different, the gap will happen. But if we realize that we are in one earth with have the same goal and always need each other, the differences make our life is so colorful. We can imagine if this world only contain of white and black, maybe we will be boring. So that’s way our God creates the differences as like he creates the color.

Something that helps us to do everything easier usually called technology. In 21^th century, technology is so helpful and needed for everyone. For example when we want to cook rice, we just cook it with magic com or when we know that our room is dark, we just switch on the lamp. Our life just like in our hands because everything use technology. Not only for making easy our life, technology also used for teaching and learning process. When I was young, my grand father always told story about his life and his parent’s life. He told me when he was child, his teacher taught him and his friends in front of his home. His teacher wrote something on the ground and then explained to them, no black board and no chalk. We are so lucky because when we studied at school we have used the blackboard. So, blackboard is one of technology. Technology is not only machine, but also everything that make easy for us to do everything. Long by long, teaching and learning process use the high technology, for example: we use computer and projector in the class. In the globalization era like now, technology helps education to save the environment. We do not need paper anymore to submit the assignment, but we just need type it in the computer and then submit it by the email. It means we have saved our environment because we don not need to cut the tree to make a paper. That is one of the advantages using technology in teaching and learning process, still so many kinds of advantages that have been felt by us. Technology also has two points of view; it doesn’t only have the advantages but also have the disadvantages.
